Family Fun by The Sea: Top Things to Do in Bridlington with Kids

The tradition of family-friendly seaside resorts in the UK is continuing to go strong during the 2020s. Sure enough, Bridlington in the East Riding of Yorkshire very much belongs among the coastal towns you may consider for a short break with your little ones.

What, though, are some of the best things to do in Bridlington for families? Below, we have picked out some of the highlights your kids will love during your time on the Yorkshire Coast.

Relax On the Beaches

Bridlington serves up not just one, but two award-winning beaches for families to enjoy. This naturally raises the question: which one is best for kids, out of North Beach or South Beach?

South Beach generally tends to be recommended more for families with children, given its large expanse of golden sand that lends itself well to building sandcastles, as well as its gentle slope.

North Beach, meanwhile, does tend to be less busy than South Beach and is close to traditional seaside attractions such as the amusements. Its pebbly and cobbled areas, though, may not be ideal for little ones who favour sand and paddling.

See All Manner of Species at Bridlington Animal Park

Despite this award-winning venue’s name, you do have to venture outside of Bridlington, a five-minute drive to Carnaby, for this one. However, you and the kids will be glad that you did.

Bridlington Animal Park is the perfect place to see such fascinating creatures as parrots, owls, zebras, flamingos, lemurs, camels, and raccoons. The park is also renowned for its unique animal encounters, which enable visitors to get up close and personal with meerkats or birds of prey.

Sail On the Pirate Ship or the Yorkshire Belle

There’s something about the open sea that captures the imaginations of all ages, and there can be few better ways to discover it than embarking on a boat trip.

Well, that’s exactly what you and the kids can do from Bridlington Harbour, whether you opt for the ever-popular Pirate Ship or the historic Yorkshire Belle. For both vessels, trips are generally available from April through to October, depending on the weather.

Sample The Local Eats and Seaside Treats

From beachfront cafes to ice cream kiosks, there’s always somewhere in Bridlington for young families to stop for refreshments. Classic seaside favourites like fish finger sandwiches and homemade scones served with clotted cream and Yorkshire tea are easily available around the town’s many warm-hearted establishments.

Popular eateries that welcome families include The Friendly Forester at 1 Marton Gate and The Old Forge restaurant in the nearby village of Sewerby.

Wander Around Bondville Model Village

While we’re on the subject of Sewerby, during your time in that area with the kids, you can’t pass up the chance to explore this charming 12th-scale model village.

Obscured behind the trees on top of Sewerby Cliffs, Bondville Model Village boasts hundreds of tiny buildings and other features, including shops, churches, a stream, and even a harbour. Prices are reasonable, but opening times do vary throughout the year. So, we would advise you to check www.visitbondville.com ahead of your visit.

Of course, it’s one thing to know about some of the most exciting things to do in Bridlington for families, and quite another matter to ensure you find comfortable and conveniently located holiday accommodation. That’s why making a holiday booking at North Bay Leisure Park might make so much sense, with the park being just 300 metres away from Bridlington’s North Beach.
